In 1891, Edward Canby and Orange O. Ozias, two businessmen from
Dayton, Ohio, purchased the patents for the newly invented computing
scale and incorporated the Computing Scale Company for the production
of commercial scales. The scales produced in the late 1800’s
were small in size and generally used for spices. The company later
evolved in the production of larger computing scales with paper
drum charts commonly known as Barrel Scales.
